Now this is a subject very few men understand. Ladies fashion and shoes. If you are married do you actually know the shoe size of your partner? No need to ask the single men you ingnorance is bliss stick to it. Well if you are married imagine this its a sunny Monday and your wife is in the car as you reverse your car then right under her seat is a lady’s shoe. what do you do. The weekend flashes fast in your head and you begin asking yourself ‘ during the weekend bar hopping did you at any time pick  any lady? Do you want to spoil a perfect evening by being the good husband? THATS A RHETORICAL QUESTION
Well this incident happened to one of my friend’s friend. So what to do? What to do?

John for now not his actual name did this. He turne to his wife and asked ‘isn’t that your friend who sings in the church choir?’ She said ‘which one?’ He said ‘ On that bill board’ as she looked keenly on to the bill board. The Dude grabbed the shoe through it out of the window and sped off like Hamilton does at the F1 tracks.

As John dropped her wife at her office building she started frisking her seat and then turned to John ‘I thought I wore shoes on both of my feet. I can’t seem to find the other shoe have you seen it dear?’ John looked at his wife with a blank expression.

So guys do you know the shoe size of your loved ones? Can’t use your PDA can you now

My father once told me that you can tell the character of a man by the kind of shoes he puts on. If he is wearing closed shoes then he is most likely to be an introvert but if he is in open shoes he is most likely to be an extrovert. Well this post is not whether this theory is true or false; or how pretty or grotesque your toes look like but its on that special ring tone or text that you send your special one.

I have just come from elevator where I have just known what my immediate boss thinks of our boss. Get this when the boss called my immediate a.k.a.  Tim’s phone had the ring tone from the Alfred Hitchcock film psycho mmm… so think about that. In Finland most junior staff have the snake icon on their Nokia’s phones for their bosses every time their senior bosses called.

Well that is what Tim feels about our boss which I may concur, but I do not remind myself about this feelings by placing a ring tone on a gadget that has become part of me. I prefer the default settings or the familiar Nokia ring tone. Call me a coward but I have been in a situation where out of the blue a colleague’s wife decides to find out what her lively loving husband has as a ring tone or whether she is on speed dial on his phone.

Its rare to find a lady going through her man’s wallet but all you need to know how your man thinks of your is by the ring tone assigned to you. Imagine finding out that you are a gold digger (by Kanye West) itch that’s nasty. Hey but there are some romantics who have lady by Kenny Rogers as the ring tone of their wives. Kid you not they do

But probably the worst experience is sending a text message to the wrong person. I recently mistakenly sent a message with sexual innuendos to my mother. A text that had all the feelings and stuffing meant for my girlfriend. Mmmmm

Good thing that my mother sent a clarification asking what the message meant. All I said was ‘mum that was a message for meant for my colleague on how to do his assignment’

Well all am hopping and praying is that Nokia, Motorola, LG, Samsung and all the rest design a recall feature that would help stop those ‘oops that text was not meant for …..’

By the way if you are wondering the ring tone assigned to my boss is one of the screams from ‘Saw’. When the phone rings and its my boss, it kills my day

It is one of those dreaded moments when your four year old grabs your phone and tries to find out if it has underwater facilities on the menu browser. Before you pull off your hair and wonder why on earth no mobile phone making company has not invented a water proof device like the guys at Rolex, Swatch and all…. Do not worry you kitchen holds a rather pleasant way of fixing your conundrum.

First option

First thing you do, do not switch on the phone water and electronics do not work very well. Also do not shake the phone. Pressing the buttons or trying to shake off the water only makes the water get deeper into the electronic circuitry. Do not use a blow dryer. The dry heat may actually create steam which will add more moisture into your device.

Second get that packet of rice that is in your kitchen cabinet.

Third remove the battery from the phone. Forth and probably the easy part put the phone inside the rice packet. The rice will act as a sponge and will literally suck out the water from the device.

Leave your phone inside the rice packet for twenty four hours in a cool dry place. Your phone should be working as new after the twenty four hours have elapsed.

Second option

If you do not have rice the place your phone up right in a cool dry place; this could be on the book shelf or one of your bed room drawers that is unlikely to be disturbed for a while. Leave the phone for twenty four hours.

The water will drain out and your phone should work after a day of therapy.

Third option

Take your phone to technician who will probably do the two options and tell you to pick your phone after a day.

Final option and rather painful, buy another phone, with this option you have the luxury of letting your four year old have a new toy that he or she will play with while taking a bath and you can receive that important call from the guys sitting and waiting for you at the pub. They will enjoy your story all over again.

Is there a simmering problem in TEAMS or The East African Marine Systems? Rumours have been running around the mills that the East Africa Submarine System EASSy which is fronted by the South Africa and other investors has been pocking its nose on the viability of TEAMS. EASSy may have taken advantage of the current political scene in Kenya to entice would be investors of TEAMS to cross over.

Another problem would be the ownership issue that directly affects the funding of TEAMS.

Well the permanent secretary in the ministry of information (Government of Kenya) Dr.Bitange Ndemo has just released a statement saying all is well. Saying ‘ the rumours were so strong that I had to go to the attorney general and re-register the ownership of TEAMS afresh so as to remove all doubt’.

He added by saying TEAMS will be the first cable to Kenya and all systems are going on as per schedule.

All the submarine cables project have been shrouded in controversy that mostly centre on the ownership with South Africa taking control of the EASSy cable and Kenya going alone for the TEAMS project.

Dr.Ndemo says ‘the government plan is to ensure that all Kenyans even in the rural areas to have access to the internet’.

Hello world!Kenya Calling

Shakers and movers are meeting at the apex of affluence at the pristine town of Davos, Switzerland. I would like to think that they will spare a few minutes before lunch or during their coffee breaks to talk about the digital divide experienced in Africa.

Poverty is an emotive topic but answers to this my lie on the effective use of ICT.

Since the entry of the mobile phone, Africa has changed and is literally jumping stages of technology.

From mobile banking to mobile money transfers; indeed there are more mobile phones than bank accounts in the streets of Africa.

Seen as an aspiration gadget the mobile phone has become part of the character of most users in Africa.

Africans had been primarily been placed as technology stylists but now through their various innovations, young Africans are making a business out of this gadgets.

Take the youth of southern Africa, multimedia phones such as the Nokia 3250 music express are being used by disc jockeys to stir up dance hall moves and grooves.

Up in rural Kenya way before the arrival of mobile money transfers (Safaricom M-Pesa and Celtel Sokotele) airtime was a known currency. Since a larger population of the user are on pre-paid programmes or as known in the western world as pay as you go, buying airtime credit of Kes 200 or $3 a person is able to transfer this amount to a relative who ends up using it for household things from the local grocery.

It is indeed exciting times in Africa on wireless front; 3G is just months away mobile phone makers are releasing more user friendly gadgets that have access to GPRS.

Safaricom of Kenya has now officially launched free email services to its 7million plus subscribers. Latest statistics from the communication commission of Kenya CCK has about 1.5 million Kenyans as internet users. What will the Safaricom and Google deal on email services entail?

Probably not much since a great chunk of mobile users have entry phones that can only call and text. So until affordable entry phones with WAP facilities are in the market then we still have to wait for an internet explosion in Kenya and the rest of Africa. Three out of every five African get their first internet experiences through a mobile phone.

So 1+1 =???

And if there are any sceptics out there say that Africans have no time for the World Wide Web; then please take look at the astronomical performance of Safaricom Kenya Limited.

During its formative years Michael Joseph the chief executive of Safaricom was predicting a healthy subscriber base of at least 100,000 now he is chocking with over 7 million customers, accolades of being the most respected company in East Africa with profit that can finance the Rwandese budget. Talk about our ‘peculiar calling habits’

Information Communication and Technology is opening up Africa like no other thing. How people use this technology will ultimately be the key to poverty alleviation.

May be next year the shakers and movers should troupe down to Nairobi they may be surprised on the solutions.

Hey we are now the eighth largest mobile market in the Middle East and Africa region. How did we get there? Call someone in Kenya and strike a conversation. We like talking
